Consolidated expands geographic, service reach with the closing of its SureWest acquisition

Consolidated Communications ( Nasdaq: CNSL ) has put the final touches on its $324 million acquisition of Roseville, Calif.-based SureWest. By acquiring SureWest, the Mattoon, Ill.-based Consolidated instantly extends its footprint into both California and Kansas. In terms of assets, the telco instantly expands its IPTV network reach, a growing Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) network and new wireless backhaul customers. “The combined company provides a diverse set of revenues and cash flows across multiple markets resulting in a stronger, more competitive company,” said Bob Currey, Consolidated's President and Chief Executive Officer, in the release announcing the closing.

Fibertech Indianapolis network expansion targets new business service opportunities

Fibertech, a fiber-centric alternative service provider operating in the Eastern and Central regions of the U.S., has put the finishing touches on its fiber expansion effort in Indianapolis, Ind. With the buildout complete, the service provider added over 50 miles of fiber, expanding the total amount of fiber in the area to over 310 route miles. Pat Dolan, director of Enterprise Sales for Fibertech, said that this latest fiber network initiative “allows us to better serve business customers north of the city.” Having operated in the Indianapolis community for 11 years, the new network will enable a host of vertical market segments, including healthcare, financial, education and government organizations and other medium and large businesses, to get access to optical services, Ethernet, and dark fiber services.
